Plastic Molding Machine

Advantages of Molding Machine

Fast
Cycle times can be as low as 10 seconds. Combine that with a multi-impression injection moulding tool and you get a LOT of products very quickly. Generally speaking, it takes a bit longer as it's a specialist material and has a lot of features to be moulded correctly, but at about 50 seconds you'd still get 70 parts per cavity per hour. CNC machining a one-off would take half a day – 3D printing it even longer!

Low cost per part
Whilst there is an initial high investment for the plastic injection molding tool, after that the cost per part is low. Other plastic processing techniques may require multiple operations, like polishing, whilst injection moulding can do it all at once. If you chose to Guanxin machine the part above, it would cost hundreds of pounds per part. If you're looking to go into full production, injection moulding is the way to go.

Special Surface Finishes, Engraving & Printing
In addition to a range of colours, the injection molding tool can be made with a special finish which will show on the moulding. Just about any finish you like, for example leather look, soft touch, sparked, high shine, you name it. You can also have logos or other text engraved in the tool. Finally, you can have your mouldings printed, as a range of inks are available.

High repeatability
Once your mould tool made, identical products can be made over and over again. A decently made mould tool has a very long mould tool life. as long as it's treated well by the moulding machine setters.

Types of Molding Machine

Hydraulic Injection Molding Machines
Hydraulic injection molding machines are powered by hydraulic fluid, which is used to pressurize the injection molding process. These machines are known for their ability to apply high clamping force, and they have been the standard in the industry for many years. The hydraulic system controls the movement of the mold and the injection of the plastic through a series of pumps and valves, enabling precise control over the molding process.

Electric Injection Molding Machines
Electric injection molding machines use electric motors to drive all the movements of the machine, including injection, clamping, and ejection. This results in more precise, clean, and energy-efficient operation. The use of servo motors and advanced control systems allows for greater control and faster response times compared to hydraulic systems.

Hybrid Injection Molding Machines
Hybrid injection molding machines combine the best features of hydraulic and electric systems. They use a hydraulic system for generating high clamping forces and an electric system for injection and other movements, providing a balance between performance and energy efficiency.

Vertical Injection Molding Machines
Vertical injection molding machines have a vertical clamping unit, which allows for the placement of molds and injection from the top. This configuration is particularly useful for insert molding and allows for a smaller footprint compared to horizontal machines.

FAQ

Q: How to Choose an Injection Molding Machine?

A: Special attention should be paid to the selection of the type and size of an injection molding machine. Larger products require a larger machine, and usually require more professional attention for proper operation. Special attention must also be paid to the injection requirements such as mold opening stroke, mold clamping force, injection volume, screw compression ratio, injection speed, finished product appearance, performance, etc. The range of products desired will determine the type of injection machine needed.

Q: How do I decide which injection molding machine type is right for my project?

A: Consider factors like part size and complexity, resin type, production volume, desired cycle time, energy usage goals, and required accuracy. Consulting with a reliable supplier ensures proper evaluation based on real production needs.

Q: Do different machine types impact long-term manufacturing costs?

A: Yes. Machine type affects operating cost, energy usage, maintenance needs, output quality, and scrap rate. Electric and hybrid machines may cost more initially but often deliver lower long-term production costs and higher profitability.

Q: How much electricity does an injection molding machine use?

A: The power consumption of electric injection molding machines ranges from 3.8 kWh to 17.9 kWh. Manufacturers can minimize power consumption by considering factors such as machine utilization, energy-saving features, and maintenance practices while maintaining high productivity and product quality.
